Regarded as one of the premier 3-2A leagues in the state, the Hi-Plains League is located in southwest Kansas. There are 9 member schools which include: Cimarron, Elkhart, Lakin, Meade, Wichita County, Southwestern Heights, Stanton County, Sublette and Syracuse. Dodge City Sacred Heart Cathedral School was added to the junior high division of the league starting in the 2015-16 academic school year, bringing the junior high division to 10 schools.
The HPL meets monthly during the school year and all of the schools are public school members of the Kansas State High School Activities Association, or KSHSAA. The KSHSAA offices are located in Topeka, KS.
To be a member of the HPL, schools must offer 11 man football, volleyball, girls and boys basketball and track. Other sports league schools offer are tennis, cross country, wrestling, golf, baseball and softball. The league is also proud sponsors of activities such as forensics and scholar's bowl, as well as both instrumental and vocal music.
The league commissioner is Mr. Randy Richter from Lakin, KS. As commissioner, he assigns officials for a variety of sports and reports monthly to the officers of the league, which is made up of the league athletic directors and principals.
